Breadalbane

A small village in the heart of Prince Edward Island, Breadalbane is best known as the one of the Island destinations for "back to the landers" in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

I've heard many stories from residents of the area about these "weirdo hippie freaks" since I moved to the Island: the assumption seems to have been that they spent most of their time naked, smoking dope, and tuning up their VW microbuses. Assumptions aside, it could be argued that this influx of "foreign" attitudes and ideas did much to enliven the culture of Prince Edward Island in ways that last to this day.

Singer Allan Rankin immortalized the village in his song Downtown Heart of Breadalbane.
