To drive location-based services (like apps we might build around Plazes) it would be useful to have databases of location information for useful things: gas stations, bank machines, restaurants. And it would be useful if these were available in an open, central repository that anyone could draw upon.
Another approach would be to develop a repository of information about open web services that accept location information and return references to physical places.
